Beautiful and efficient, just not real damascus
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. This video of the knife is after having it for 5 months, which is why there’s so many scratches. It has held up pretty well. I’m a sushi chef, so this has probably done miles of cutting by now, and this knife certainly gets any slicing done without issue, provided you hit the whet stone occasionally.Factory sharpness was nothing to sneer at; for home use it should be adequate but the pros out there know sharpening after a few uses won’t hurt. For the price point, this is a pretty and efficient blade. That being said, I experimented to see if it was real damascus by attempting to re-etch it using coffee. After which, I’m pretty confident that it’s not, which did bum me out a little, hence the 4-star rating. In all, it’s still a great (and great-looking) knife that has withstood the test of time and wear, I just wish it were advertised as laser-etched rather than genuine damascus. I’d still recommend it to anyone looking for a decent sushi knife.

Not Damascus, laser etched, but still a great knife!
The knife may be VG10 but it is not real Damascus (layers), it is laser etched. I pretty much expected that at this price range so I only took away one star for the laser-etched Damascus pattern. Hopefully, the cutting blade is VG10, since they did not tell the truth on the Damascus part. The knife is sharp, beautiful and well balanced. Very happy with it. Just chopped a whole onion with it as a test. It has a good weight/heft to it to slice through the onion but the blade is still very thin and slides through easily with good tip control. Cut onion 80% through on one plane and then turned 90 degrees to chop. Excellent control on the detail cuts on the first plane and I could make rows very close together. It seems like a great performer for the price. Just the knife I wanted for veggies. It is NOT a meat cleaver. I love this knife, let's see how well it holds up to long term use. TBD.BTW, I have attached pictures of a "real Damascus" blade and you can see how the layers change directions when the blade was ground. Look closely. BTW, the pocket knife was a gift and came from the custom knifemaker, Santa Fe Stoneworks.

surprisingly awesome
I was surprised at how much i love this knife. After using a wusthoff santoku for the last 10 years, I noticed that my index finger would get irritated where it touched the top of the blade at the front of the handle. The tapered design of this knife completely got rid of that and it is heavier and better balanced than my wusthoff. The knife has almost a chrome look to it and the benefit of that is that food doesn't stick to it, at all. I used to have to peel tomatoes off of my old one and this one has no problem with them. I'm buying a couple more for gifts for my family.

No serrations but presently works
Fine, Sharp Quality Knife. Good Balance, and great Box to keep it in. You will hear of a sushi knife needing serrations to cut the finished roll without pressure. But This specific knife is sharp enough (4 cuts no sharpen required yet_ to cut the sushi roll like a hot knife thru butter, used correctly in the slice.Damascus is a fine technique (and rare) and the scrolling pattern on the blade is awesome for the "Flair".Absolutely well satisfied with it and likely a present for another old retired chef friend on his birthday!

marvelous cutting instrument
this is a most excellent professional cutting knife. used it on a loaf of bread and it sliced right through like butter with no resistance or ragged pieces of bread even though my skill set resulted in some thicker pieces. this was solved easily with a knife slice through the piece, wow!! the knife is very sharp as i found out with just a knick cut a thumb requiring a small band aid. price is not great when you receive a wonderful top-of-the line cutting tool. a wise investment and may i add beautifully packaged.

Good quality and it just so happens to look gorgeous
That Damascus steel is so beautiful to look at, but still, it is a great bread knife when it comes to its main purpose - cutting my fresh homemade bread.

Waaaaay way way nicer than price suggests
In my earlier years, I was a professional chef. All of the knives I have at home are J.A. Henckels and every knife I own costs at least $300 each. I bought this knife to give to a friend as a house warming gift. It is absolutely nicer than any single knife I own. Do not have any fear placing the order. This knife way surpasses any expectation. It is not just nice for the price, it would still be a nice knife even if it was $350. No joke. The handle is nicer than anything I own.

Probably laser etched pattern but good knife
I'm inclined to agree with other reviewers, I believe the damascus pattern is laser etched. The pattern looks fuzzy, not sharply defined layers you would typically see with acid etching. I'm hesitant to say it is or is not "damascus" steel. Otherwise I do really like this knife. It feels good in the hand and handles well. It's a bit beefier than most other utility knives, more like a shrunken chef's knife.

Great Porduct!
I've been a professional kitchen manager for over 5 years. I have to connect with many ingredients and knives everyday. For this knife, I like it, looks great, I use it at home and professional kitchen where it gets roughly 10 hours of use 5 days a week at least. I have a whetstone I use on it on occasion and I use a honing stick on it more often it still cuts perfectly. I work mostly with chicken, beef, pork, and veggies where I sometimes prep for hours and it still isn't dull. If you're someone new to cooking looking to buy the best knife on a whim, this may make you love cooking after you get acquainted, it's heavier than some on the market, but this is the real deal. Worth the money, professional or at home.

Very sharp and easy to maintain with reasonable price
I use it for everything except big carving and chopping jobs. Solid handle, comfortable and good grip, very sharp and sturdy, sharpener included, high grade material, finger guard included, perfect packing and best gift to anyone. As soon as I opened the product I tested to see how sharp it was, it cut through carrots very easily and also a potato. Very well designed: the top edge is rounded to make a pinch grip comfortable, and the line across the top of the blade to the handle is level, which is good for scraping a pile of cut onions/garlic straight into the pan.

Scary sharp
Sharpest knife I’ve put my hands on to date. I’m a hunter, trapper and butcher my own game, I have about 30 different knives and 5 sharpening systems....never got a knife this sharp. Hope it holds an edge cause it’s an impressive tool. Keep away from kids or clumsy people.

Great Price For A Great Knife
Every home cook should buy this knife. It is sharp and is still sharp after 2 weeks of using it and I cook everyday. Although made in China rather then Japan it is well made and for the price you really can,t go wrong.

Small and useful impressing satisfaction
The knife came in an exquisite box, looks great and with a moderate weight, the quality is good, I knew that when I first pick it up. I have used it for a while and it’s performed good just like what I expect, I always used it for cutting potatoes and processing seafood like oyster, I like it for a short.
