Brave Wolf and the Thunderbird: Tales of the People (Tales of the People, 2)

Purchased for my granddaughter. She fell in love with this story and reads along just fine. The Moral of the story intrigued even myself, a early middle aged Native American coming from the same tribe as the Author. I am 'one satisfied customer.

Joe is one of my all time favorite people. He is well respected because he is a leader and a doer never leaving a story or subject untold. Even at 100 hundred years of age he is still more articulate, bright and witty than most of us ever will be. Love you Joe and thank you.

This book goes along perfectly with my lesson plan.

A beautifully illustrated and traditional story that any child or adult would love.This book is a keeper for any family's library, exemplifying the simplistic way a traditional Native American oral story can be applicable to these modern times.

Brave Wolf and the Thunderbird is a folktale about bravery.Brave Wolf was picked up one day by a thunderbird. She was a concerned mother with a need to protect her birds from the monster.Brave Wolf was super brave. With a calm demeanor, he kept asking the bird for more supplies. He worked diligently and got the job done. Not knowing what to expect, the bird brought all the supplies like asked until the river monster appeared. Without any hesitation, Brave Wolf defeated the monster and everyone lived happily ever after.Sometimes all it takes is a good plan and some bravery to get the job done.

The message of hope conveyed by the sensitive ethnic illustrations make this work poignant not only to the members of the American Indian culture but also to readers of many ethnic backgrounds. While the colors and tones strike an immediate association with the unique southwestern colors of that landscape, the universal message delivers an identifiable sentiment to persons from many cultures. The symbolism depicted within the illustrations provoke thought even to the young reader and questioning of one's own culture's use of symbols. Parallels are then easier to make about similar symbols in a particular culture. Although unfamiliar with the Peoples Series, marketing of this kind of work to early readers can only enhance the integration and feelings of universality that are so sorely needed in our youth's literature.

Medicine Crow hat versucht seine Kultur anderen Menschen nahe zu bringen, die nicht zu seinem Volk gehören.Inhalt: Der Krieger Mutiger Wolf wird von einem Donnervogel-Weibchen um Hilfe gebeten. Sie hat ihren Horst an den Klippen eines Sees und jedes Mal, wenn sie Junge hat, kommt das Monster aus dem See und frißt sie auf. Sie verliert ihre Kinder und ist total verzweifelt. Mit Klugheit und List gelingt es Mutigen Wolf das Monster zu besiegen und zu töten. Anschließend kehrt er zurück in sein Dorf.Der Segen und die Freundschaft von Donnervogel werden ihn und sein Volk begleiten.Donnervogel, der große Adler, war der Mittler zwischen dem Großen Geist und Schöpfer, der unsichtbar über allem schwebt und den Menschen. Sie stellten sich vor, dass ein übergroßer Adler mit seinen Schwingen den Donner erzeugt = Donnervogel.Das Buch kann ich jedem empfehlen, der sich für Märchen und/oder nordamerikanische Indianer und deren Kultur interessiert.Für Kinder, die bereits 2 - 3 Jahre Englisch in der Schule haben, kann man es als Geschenk nehmen.
