NCE 5240223 USB Programmer for Power Cab

I'm thrilled to finally get mine. I have upgraded most of the things on my system, and this was one of the things I wanted from the beginning.. To be able to control the trains on my laptop was something I really wanted. I got the JMRI and decoder pro set up easy enough, though I didn't know for sure it was right until I tried one of the throttles. The board immediately lit up and one of my locomotives jumped to life. I was thrilled! I have yet to try withrottle, but that's the next thing. In the course of 2.5 I completely set up my 4 locomotives. Well, I read them on the main and changed a couple lighting and sound values. I think i'm going to try it on the programming track after I set the wireless. But it's working great and is worked out much better than the autos, which didn't work at all for me.. But no company'complaints whatsoever

The circuit interface board solved my need to interface my computer with the NCE DCC system with the JMRI software. Set up was easy and everything works great.

Absolutely a must have IF you have decoder programming skills/ needs.

This is the second NCE item I purchased and this is the second time the item I received was defective. In this case the one of the little SMD parts had broken off of the board. It was not even worth opening it as I could see the part sitting in the bottom of the bag. The other item I purchased right, the NCE power cab starter set, also arrived defective. In that case I called NCE before returning it and talked to tech support... They advised me that their defect rate was very low 1% or less... they said it was most likely I did something wrong installing my own decoders in my own locomotives so I went out and bought a stock train with stock decoder designed to work with NCE controllers... that train did not work so I returned it for a new controller and the second controller worked. Thus far my NCE purchases defect rate have been 100%. Disappointed that I had to repurchase and pay extra for overnight shipping since the plan was to have this by the weekend and get started programming this over the weekend when I had time. Let's hope I don't get another dud today.To note: Once I received the second controller I would give it 5 stars it is so cool and works fantastic. I will update this review too once I get the new board and see if it works or is broken again.Here is a picture of the board and you can see the little white SMD device just floating in there on the bottom right. A little above and to the left you can see where it should be soldered onto the board.

Works like a charm!!! Plugged it in and after playing with around for a while I got it to work with JMRI. Now I can run my trains using the NCE Power Cab throttle or my Android tablet or Android phone to control the trains. This is pretty cool and very convenient..

I used this board to connect to a programming track so I could upload and download model train decoder CVs via a laptop. Used JMRI Decoder Pro 3 software on the old XP Laptop. Everything worked well, had no problems.

This is the interface from the NCE Power Cab to whatever computer you have that is running JMRI software.

I have not used the item yet but expect it to work as required,
