Altum Aquatic Shrimp and Plant Aquarium Soil, 8.8-Pound, Black

Since Controsoil is no longer available, I've looked all over Amazon for a good affordable shrimp substrate & finally found it. No complaints here & I'd recommend Altum to anyone in the shrimp hobby.

The substrate is crumbling..... only been in tank for 3 months.thats not right.

What a great product! Unlike other substrates that clouds the water even when you put the water slowly, this product does not cloud the water at all. I just got to try this product last week and I could already see some big improvement on my current setup. As you can see in my pictures, I use this Altum soil in my small 5 gallon tank (since I only got one bag) and I'm trying to do some Iwagumi style setup. I planted some regular baby tears without any co2, led lights, or a filter, I wanted to try to use the natural light from my window. After about a day or two, I saw some new growths on the baby tears.For many years I have been using Eco-complete or ADA Amazonia, but they are just not quite right for me. One of them is too big and does not look good for small plants such as the baby tears or dwarf hair grass. The other one is just way too expensive for a college student like who lives with his parents.You just cant beat the price of this product. It is the best alternatives to those expensive brands that you see on the market. I am so pleased with this product that I will order some more to build a new set up for my 55 gallon tank. You will not get disappointed!I will also post up some new pictures after I get some shrimp, so you guys can see how this product do the job.

I'm currently using this in my planted aquarium and it makes my plants stand out. I really like the dark round shape of the soil and how it contrasts against the plant colors. Plants are growing well and I'm planning to add shrimps.
