Great idea, easy to use, doesn't last
The Nomiku Immersion Circulator would be a great device if it were built to last. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to be made very well. I bought this device 6 months ago. During that time, we used it about a dozen times. The Nomiku is very easy to use (fill a large pot, clip it to the side of the with the built in clip, plug it in, set temperature, and drop in your vaccum sealed food). We cooked steaks, fish, and chicken using various recopies... all were perfectly cooked (although it takes some experimentation to get used to the level of seasoning and to make better use of dry rubs which seem to work best for sous vide cooking IMHO, but that is an issue with learning sous vide not specific to the Nomiku).Unfortunately, my Nomiku suddenly failed for no apparent reason with a cryptic "Error 16" message. Our roast which had been cooking overnight was presumably compromised (can't tell what temp it feel to after the failure, but obviously we don't want to risk eating it now). When we found the device in the "Error 16" mode, there was nothing obviously wrong: water level was good, nothing was blocking the impellers. Unplugging the device, cleaning it, and cooling it down did not fix anything. We have a support request in to the company and will need to return the unit for repair/replacement. However, I doubt I would trust Nomiku with my food again; having a total failure, with a cryptic error message, after only a dozen uses does not bode well.I know many people have had long term success with their Nomiku. I can't say why ours failed for sure, but I suspect it is due to inferior "home use" only quality. Why? Because one of the ways that we were using our Nomiku was for extended cooking (24-48 hours) of tougher cuts of beef ("cowboy" steaks for example) The cuts of meat we used were steaks that we ordinarily would never have eaten. This is a method of cooking (that is discussed in our sous vide books), however, results in a surprisingly tender and flavorful steak and really highlighted the benefits of sous vide cooking methods. However, long term cooking probably puts a strain on a "home use" device like this. My next sous vide machine will be a commercial quality device that can stand up to the rigors of all forms of sous vide cooking.

I had issues with the first unit maintaining calibration however the customer service at Nomiku was great to work with via email and sent a new tested unit out right away. I highly recommend any sous vide unit be checked against another thermometer to make certain you are cooking to the proper temps. This unit works well, gets lots of use and the food comes out perfect everytime.

Loved it... while it worked.
I loved the product, while it worked. It's made a little cheaply, and within the first 25 uses, I checked the temperature displayed against two plain thermometers... the Nomiku was over-stating the heat by 3-4 degrees. OK, no big deal... just cook a few degrees higher. Well, 10 uses later, the readout now starts at 212f whenever I turn it on and slowly moves down. It never gets near the right temperature... so it never heats the water. The Nomiku website is awful, no support section and it clearly states that they will not help after the year warranty is up.

Stopped working after few uses
It suddenly just stopped working. Unfortunately, this was bought as a Christmas present a couple of years ago, so I cannot return it, even though I only used this about 10 times total.

Update: An excellent addition to any kitchen! + great customer service!
Every bit as good as all the other 5-star reviews relate! A friend owns a restaurant that offers wonderful dishes using expensive restaurant-grade sous vide equipment. This little inexpensive (comparatively!) well-designed and well-built device enables me to turn out the same quality in my own kitchen.Update 09 Dec 14: I've been using the Nomiku Sous Vide Circulator steadily since the April 14 purchase date and it's been a wonderful addition to my kitchen. So many great meals!Recently a problem developed: the temp would spontaneously increase to 200F+ with no warning beep or apparent cause. The first time, I thought "user error" and turned the temp back down but soon afterward it self-adjusted back to 200F+. This spontaneous and silent adjustment occurred for the next two or three uses. I went online to the Nomiku website and noticed an online "chat" feature. It was early evening so I didn't expect a response but - hey, it was worth a try! I was amazed when Patrick quickly responded. I described the problem, he guided me through a diagnosis (unsuccessful, unfortunately)and then offered to replace the unit at no charge and send a shipping label to return the defective unit at Nomiku's cost. Patrick passed my concern over to his colleague Chris, who immediately followed up. Thanks to Nomiku for great customer service!

Great product at a bargain price
As a professional chef, I've worked with commercial units costing upwards of $2000. The Nomiku is every bit as good for home use. Small, sleek design is about the size of a stick blender. Stores easy in any cabinet or drawer. This is a bargain at $200.
