Titan Books Kong: Skull Island - The Official Movie Novelization

Carnival of monsters
This is a very worthy novelisation that completely captures the style and atmosphere of the film. It is a loyal rendition but doesn’t merely just run through events as per onscreen. It extrapolates in the right way to give more depth, especially character wise, to what is essentially an action packed monster movie. The events of the novelisation take place from the perspectives of several of the characters. Although there are a few instances where other characters come to the fore, the novel opts to focus on Pacard, Weaver, Marlowe, Conrad and Randa. It is really through the perspectives of these five that the reader sees events. The author build on the performances in the film to give more of an insight into these five characters and why they have ended up on this mission to Skull Island.Perhaps the most beneficial element that comes out of this is the relationship between Pacard and Conrad. The author catches a good sense of the wariness and begrudging respect they each view each other with. It creates a little added level of tension that didn’t quite come across or wasn’t developed enough in the film. It adds to poignancy to the eventual standoff between them over deciding the fate of Kong. There isn’t much included that is different to the film. There’s the inclusion of a background character, Jenny, that is used to provide Conrad with a bit more of a back story and thus enrich his character. The only extra monster in the novelisation is a giant snake. Also the main Skullcruncher monster seems to be called a Skull Devil in the novelisation whereas I don’t recall that term being used onscreen.Overall, it’s a well written novelisation with a good grasp of the action sequences.

A Kong-sized hit.
A cracking expansion on the film. Fills in back-story for Mason and Conrad and the action is brilliantly described. Highly recommended.

Kong Rules
Very good story. Well written. A lot of the film in this plus stuff not in the film. Once the exciting parts happen the boom is hard to put down. Well worth buying.
