OK Then, "Look for squares, circles, straight lines, and squiggly lines to help break down the pictures, (...). Draw the big shapes and lines first and then add in the smaller details." and shocking, spoiler alert, "If you have tracing paper, you can trace the drawing directly, (...)." I love these books
I love these books. They are really fun and help motivate me to draw when I don't feel like drawing something difficult. Love it. People complain that there is no step by step instructions but that 's what I like about it. They're such simple drawings that you don't need the step by step. Some are a little tougher than others, but most are easy. I really like it.

disappointing
i purchased this book hoping that it would teach me different ways to draw animals. the title and intro page implies as such. instead what you get is illustrated references of different ways the animals can be drawn. there are no sketch lines to follow and you are to use tracing paper to 'learn" to draw the different ways or you can draw them your own way. the pages in this book kind of reminds of a coloring book and i am glad that i bought it used.

It’s cute but no instructions
I like the doodles in this book, but I was expecting more instructions of drawing. It’s really just a bunch of pictures and only like two pages of cats. Most the book is other stuff.

Beautiful artwork to reference from
Beautiful artwork to reference from. It doesn't teach you how to draw anything but it serves as refrence to different art styles.

Not necessarily for beginners, no step by step instructions
This book is great for inspiration for slightly experienced artists but I was disappointed when it arrived when I saw there weren’t any step by step instructions only simple images that serve better as inspiration for those who are able to just replicate a complete single image.

Good inspiration
As an artist myself, I didn't think I needed this book, I can draw very well myself. Amazon kept dangling this in front of me and I finally decided to check a copy out from the Library to see it before committing to buy a copy. What I like about it is not really the illustrations themselves, many are too 'cutesy' or simplistic for my taste, but the way seeing what the author drew made me 'think outside of the box'. When I draw, I do simplify objects to make them suitable for quilting and embroidery but I've been locked into an attempt to make things too realistic. The drawings the author/artist made for this book exemplifies taking a complex object and creating a caricature (in a sense) of it. Not a style of drawing I had explored much, but seeing these illustrations has opened some windows in my mind and I found myself sketching subjects in a way that was rare for me to do previously. Be warned, this is not a step by step 'how to draw' manual like some art books are; this is more a sort of 'gallery' of examples by subject (all of the ones in this book are animals, she has others that focus on flowers or trees...). There are 20 illustrations for each animal, and each drawing is refreshingly different from the others. I found them very inspirational to give me a different perspective on drawing and simplification.

Likely good for the consummate doodler
Two pages of cats (with space to copy on those two pages), then two pages of each of the other animals. Probably too sophisticated for younger than 10yrs (I don't have children tho!) and not especially appropriate for a cat fanatic, which is what I was hoping for. Likely good for the consummate doodler.
