Works great right out of the box.
When I first opened up the drive I was like, oboy I need a usb cable for this thing. Turned it over and there was a built in usb pigtail neatly stored on the back of the drive. Plugged it in and burned a dvd iso no problem, Thank you

Fine for DVD/CD R/W... LightScribe feature dicey for desktops.
Pros: Slim, lightweight, external. Nice finished appearance. Very quiet operation. All CD/DVD functions work well except LightScribe feature.Cons: very short fixed USD connector cord, LightScribe feature requires direct connection (no extension cords, hubs, etc.) otherwise won't work. Even connecting to front panel USD on my desktop caused LightScribe feature to fail. Seller recommends connection to USB ports on motherboard. Not all motherboards have standard USB connections.Comments: For playing/recording CDs and DVDs this device has all the features you want. I found the fixed USB connector cord too short for use with my desktop as the distance from the USB port on the PC and the nearest flat surface (including the top of the PC tower) was too far for the cord to reach. As a result I was forced to let the drive dangle from the cord which did not seem to affect it use. I bought this device primarly for the LightScribe feature but was unable to use that feature. It was not recognized as a LightScribe drive. The Seller recommends connecting the drive directly to the motherboard which is impractical in most offices. You would have to leave the covers off the PC in order to do that. In my desktop the USB ports on the back of the machine are connected to the motherboard with a different type of cable "header". My computer is of the Compaq/HP Presario desktop series. If the LightScribe feature worked without jury rigging the connection and the USB cable was longer I could easily give it a 4-5 star rating. I think it would probably work fine with most laptops, but do not recommend it for use with a desktop pc.

The light scribe feature works well. The CD player words great. It is annoying and nearly impossible to get it to read a blank CD for burning.

Do not buy this.
Do not buy this unless all you want is an external dvd drive. When I downloaded lighstcribe software in order to use this, I got malware and a trojan!! I will not risk further possible damage to the computer by trying to install software for using this device. If I was still able to, I would return it, however I waited too long to try and use it. Seems I no longer have this option. Buyer be ware.

Died after recording 1 CD on Win 10 Desktop
Connected to both my Win 10 desktop and Win 7 laptop and both recognized the drive. It would also play musical disk. Recorded one cd with it connected to my Win 10 desktop. After that, drive stopped functioning on either of the computers. I returned and purchased the Pawtec which so far has performed ok.
