Sturdy, Pretty, but a Bit Dinged Up, and Missing Magnet
Overall, this is a nice looking and seemingly well-built mailbox. We ordered one through Amazon Warehouse that mentioned it might be in non-original packaging (they put the original box inside an Amazon box), but it didn't mention any damage to the mailbox itself, which normally they do if there's a problem. This had several dings that leave metal exposed, which could lead to rusting or more decay of the coating. It was also missing the magnet we expected to latch the door, so the door just falls open.If we bought this new, we'd return it because of these issues. But given how much we saved anyway, we'll do some enamel touchups and attach a new magnet before putting it outside.--UPDATE: We unfortunately learned these Whitehall mailboxes are specifically designed to only be used with Whitehall posts and mounts. They're not meant to go on a traditional wooden mailbox post. And a "universal" mounting plate will not work with them. The holes that would need to mount it to the plate are 6in apart. But most mounting plates and brackets only go 6in apart themselves, with the holes closer together than that inside of them. However, after seeing someone else post a photo where they clearly used a custom wooden mounting board, my wife created one for us to try. And it worked out beautifully, even better than the one we saw (which was visible under the box).I'll attach a photo of the finished project mounted to our existing wooden post with cross-beam (after a fresh paint job). I'll also attach a photo of the mounting plate fit inside the bottom of the mailbox. Here's what you do:- Buy a 1x8 treated board that's suitable for outdoor use.- Cut it to just under 17.5in. That would be too large. I think we did 17 7/16in, but you could do 17 1/4 if you prefer. My wife just used her oscillating tool / multi-tool for the whole thing, but a circular saw or even hand saw would make quick work of this part.- Then you need to cut a square-ish hole out. We didn't aim for perfect here so it looks kind of rough-cut. Just enough to let the protruding square on the bottom of the mailbox fit in. This will give you that cleaner look when mounted. This is also why she ran with the multi-tool, because it's great for plunge cuts. But again, use whatever you have available (tip: if you're in a really tight spot, you can even "cut" like this with a bunch of drilled holes in a line - not recommended, but you can do this without anything fancy or expensive).- Sand and paint your post if you plan to. We also put a coat of paint on the board to match the mailbox. Then mount the plate to your cross-post. We used 6 3in exterior / deck screws for this. We put 4 toward the back and two more toward the front. Measure carefully before doing this though. The mailbox itself will sit about an inch behind the board, so don't mount the board flush to the vertical post!- Then set your mailbox on the mounting board and mark your holes for drilling (using the 4 holes inside the mailbox that form a square).- Drill those holes, then re-mount the mailbox and screw it to the mounting board. You'll want flat-head screws so they don't snag envelopes and packages. Exterior screws are ideal. I believe we went with #8 1-in screws. That sounds too long for a 1x8 (given they're really only 3/4in thick), but learn from our mistake. There's a gap between the metal and the wood mounting board you need to account for. Much shorter and it won't hold. You should be good to go then! Finished example is in the pics for my review. Very happy we won't have to return the box. And I bet our mail carrier will be even happier.

Well designed and quality made.
We were looking for a suitable replacement for our beat up old mailbox, and this Whitehall mailbox was perfect for our need. It is well constructed, and I anticipate it lasting us for many years.
