The goal of thermometry is to measure core body temperature, which is the temperature of the vital organs such as heart and brain. These sites are not easily accessible for temperature measurement at home or in a doctor' s office. This is why other, more accessible sites for temperature measurement have been identified. In a non-critical medical setting, or at home, temperatures are commonly taken at the following body sites: axilla (underarm), mouth, rectum, temple / forehead and ear. Ear temperatures accurately reflect core body temperature, since the eardrum shares blood supply with the temperature control center in the brain, the hypothalamus. We all love it!
It a very good product! Takes the temperature in a a second, the baby does not mind the process anymore and we are not terrorizing her with other methods of taking her temperature when she is already fussy enough. It has a back light it has all the features you can think about and by default comes with batteries and 2 sets of plastic tops.I really recommend it, i wish we would have had it from the beginning.

my kids love getting their temperature taken!
We were tired of fighting the battle of taking our children's temperature with our old digital thermometer. It was hard to know if we got it in the right spot (in their armpits) and it seemed to take forever. Our pediatrician recommended this model and we are thrilled with it. It works quickly, is easy to use, and our kids actually ask to have their temperature taken when they see it. What a welcome change!

Don't waste your time!!!
Ordered last week and the unit didn't even work when received. Keep showing "Err" message. Tried troubleshooting tips but still didn't work. Call Brauns tech support, they said the unit is not under warranty because it was discontinued 2-3yrs ago. They recommended that I return it and that's what I am going to do. The only reason I write this review so that you don't have to waste your time like me.
