WISH UPON A STAR
Teen crush or real love that is the question that this book explores. I enjoyed it although for it ti progress it was going to need luck of heroic proportions. It keeps you guessing right to the end. A lovely book and l will be looking for more by Geoff.

More Rural Wonder
"Under The Stars" is Geoff Laughton's second novel after "By The Creek," and like his first, this story centers around love developing in a rural setting. Ethan Tanner is out, fashion-forward and a bit of a germophobe, so there's nothing he's looking forward to about the dude ranch his sister picks for their family summer vacation. But when he meets Jason McCoy, a closeted farm boy, Ethan begins to discover a friendship and feelings that grow from that connection.Laughton always does a wonderful job of depicting the rural atmosphere, and the threats that come along for the characters who live there. For Jason, his life is the farm, and coming out of the closet would mean extreme disapproval from his father. And then there's Rick, the somewhat menacing cousin who could expose him if he ever found out. All the information about horses and trails complete the rural picture and create a vivid image of this place for the reader. And to have Ethan come into that setting, when he's basically the opposite of all of this, provides some good tension and allows the reader to watch him grow over the course of the novel through his relationship with Jordan. At points, I felt like the dialogue was a little stilted and perhaps at times bordering a little on cliché. And sometimes I felt like the tension could have been more immediate, but at the heart of Laughton's books are two characters that come together and grow alongside one another. His ability to create believable character growth with people you will care about is incredible, and as always, the wonder of the rural world is palpable through his descriptions. I highly recommend both "Under The Stars" and "By The Creek," and am looking forward to reading his third novel, "At The Lake."

Ethan knows he is going to hate this and bitterly expresses his feelings
Two young (16 year old) boys - one being very urban oriented with main interest in theater and the other the son of a dude ranch owner. Ethan the city boy is vegetarian and anti dirt, animals and germs. He has a sister and each year they take turns to choose a vacation destination. This year is his sisters turn and she picks a dude ranch. Ethan knows he is going to hate this and bitterly expresses his feelings, but to no avail. Oh and Ethan is out and proud.Jason is closeted living and working on his parents ranch and is told to take Ethan around the ranch. He teaches Ethan how to ride a horse and asks Ethan to go camping with him. Ethan hesitantly accepts, but things happen and the boys become inseparable. However, Jason's father becomes aware of his sons attraction and keeps Jason busy away from Ethan. Ethan returns home to Chicago. When Jason's school class goes to Chicago to visit museums, can the boys manage to met again? If you enjoy YA stories this book is a must read.

Very good story and messages for gay youth in this book....
I loved "Under the Stars"....beautiful cover, it brought back so many memories of when I worked on a dude ranch in Colorado as a 17 year old gay teen. The difference was I was alone, so I loved the happy ending of this book and the hope it gives all gay teens. I made my own happy ending with a husband of 31 years, a home and wonderful life. But what Geoff Laughton AKA Andrew Grey does is give gay youth hope for what is possible. I applaud him for that. If you liked this book, read Geoff's "By the Creek"....another story of hope for gay youth and one I can relate to since I grew up by one of the largest Amish communities in U.S. (Holmes County, Ohio). Keep up the good work, Geoff! Glad you are writing full-time.
