2013 debut from the British Dance/Pop/R&B duo featuring Aluna Francis and George Reid. AlunaGeorge take the boom of British bass culture and marries it to the sweet slickness of classic American R&B. In the 12 months since their first release went viral, AlunaGeorge's DIY video for 'You Know You Like It' has clocked up over 2 million views, the band were crowned the most blogged artist of 2012, they sold out a European tour, performed at Moschino's catwalk show during London Fashion Week and made the top 3 for both last year's prestigious BRITS Critics Award and the BBC Sound of 2013 (#2). These accolades, and the universal praise heaped upon the duo's shoulders, were of course a direct result of the incredibly fresh and unique music the pair are producing.

Modern Take on 90s Pop/R&B for Mostly Positive Results
AlunaGeorge is a British duo focused on pairing modern electronic with 90s pop/r&b. Singer Aluna Francis has a almost childlike voice, very reminiscent of 90s girl bands like TLC with touches of Kate Nash and Ellie Goulding. George Reid is the man behind the music, crafting minimal yet catchy beats that both highlight as well as save Aluna sometimes. As a proud child of the 90s, this music is both familiar as well as fresh--with several standout pop gems like "You Know You Like It" and "Attracting Flies."Aluna's lyrics are also a highlight. She's not quirky in the same way that Lily Allen or Marina are, but she has a distinctive way of putting words together. Her chorus from "Attracting Flies" is both hilarious as well as genuinely clever: "Little grey fairy tales/ And little white lies/ Everything you exhale is attracting flies." Aluna's lyrics combined with George's early Pharrell-like production are what really make this album stand out from the crowd. It's both style as well as substance, which honestly makes them a cut above a lot of the very material and bands they musically reference. The main problem with this album though, is its cohesiveness. It's all pretty much universally good, yet not all brilliant. AlunaGeorge is almost a victim of their own talent--some of their songs are just so strong, that when the others don't reach that point, it's a disappointment even though they're not bad songs. Still that just speaks to how capable both Aluna and George are and the high standard of quality on this album. It also would have been nice if George could have incorporated some sounds that didn't sound like they all originated from the depths of his computer. A few punches of real instruments would have seriously beefed up the depth of the music. For fans of 90s era pop and r&b like TLC, Dream, and 3LW plus modern influences like Disclosure, Charli XCX or even Rudimental. It's a fun ride.

aluna george is seriously amazing
this is basically my favorite album ever, right now. i heard one song of hers on the radio, liked it enough to look it up on youTube (doesn't take much for me, ha) and from THERE i started listening to all of her s***, plus her cd being on youTube--DEFINITELY wanted to OWN it and support her, so i bought it hardcopy, which also adds a digital version to my kindle. HAPPY with it!!! listen to it basically all the chances i get, all day : ] the meanings behind/around the songs keep changing for me as things in my life change, but they ALWAYS fit just right!! she actually inspires me to write songs : ]]]]]]]]] love her music to pieces!

There's a reason this is a hit album in Europe - it's good and sounds Fresh!
I like ALUNAGEORGE's updated UK pop music - it's a little 80's, a little now, and very on trend. Her voice has a unique pitch but I do like it. Hints of Goldfrapp and the XX.Fun melodies and hip-hop sub text but never too much of any one musical style. Pop music and it's good - highly recommended.

Obsessed!
I wish I would've known about this album earlier! I can't stop playing it. I love the way Aluna's voice sounds and with George's beats, the mixture is fantastic. I'll definitely buy their next album.

Great album.
I first got in this pair from Dislosure's debut album where the band worked on White Noise, having bought both of the available albums, there are both great efforts, this one perhaps isn't as strong as the self-titled but still very enjoyable and a great CD to have one whilst you're doing some housework or for some background ambience.

Great album
I was encouraged in buying this by other peoples comments about the album. There's only one song I don't like and that's the cover version, all the others are really easy to listen to. They're not all quite as funky as the everything you exhale song if that's a useful guide!

Brilliant
I love these two and I'm an old man :-D (Well, my kids think I am at 47). Simply awesome album, Aluna's voice staying just the right side of fey without sliding into annoying, really well-crafted songs and a fantastic cover of "This is how we do it"!
