Lasted One Year
I purchased the Alterna jar exactly one year ago. I watched the videos and practiced the exact cleaning method because I’ve been through so many Blendtec jars. I didn’t want to waste time and money on another jar. Well, here we are one year later and the area around the blades is cloudy white and the blades do not spin like they should. I regret buying a Blendtec altogether.

Works great! you can replace the blades (or O-ring which is always been my problem with OEMs ). A little cheaper too.

Great alternative Jar...
Where's the tamper and extra blade assembly? As advertised? Actual build quality is great, doesn't leak at all even with 72oz of liquid on puree, less vibration.

The blade mechanism cannot handle the speed of a Blendtec
My first Alterna jar lasted a little over year, bought as a replacement to the original jar from my Blendtech blender. While I was blending a smoothie at full RPMs, the blade to the Alterna snapped in half, exploded through the base of the jar, and ricocheted three times off the kitchen walls (no joke). Very dangerous. I contacted the Alterna manufacturer and sent photos. They said this was not the first complaint of something similar, and then offered me a new jar for free (said it had a redesigned blade mechanism to prevent similar events). The new jar broke in less than a month - the gear mechanism sheered completely bald and just spun doing nothing.These jars cannot handle the high RPMs of a Blendtec or Vitamix. Stick with the original jars.

Broke messily after three years.
The original Blendtec jar lasted seven years. It was used for all kinds of frozen fruit drinks, once every day or two. Then the cutter bearings seized. Since the cutter assembly is not replaceable, the Alterna Jar, with two sets of cutters and bearings, looked attractive. Unfortunately, the replacement Alterna Jar lasted only three years, used every three or four days, for the same kinds of frozen fruit drinks. Then one day it broke, as shown in the photo, when blending frozen fruit that included peaches. It was a terrible mess to clean up. The warranty is only one year, and it is not clear whether it would have covered this anyway.The Alterna Jar cutter has four blades instead of two. This makes it puree faster, but may strain the motor. It was able to puree a frozen drink in one cycle instead of two. It runs much noisier than the Blendtec jar.The lid design is not as good as the Blendtec lid. The lid is domed, which means that overflow from the center does not go back into the jar. The plug is airtight, and leaving it loose, to allow contents to expand, also allows jar contents to fly out. The old Blendtec lid was always used, after using the Alterna Jar lid for the first few drinks.
