The M1 Garand, 1936-1957 Paperback – April 1, 1997

This book is the bible on the M1 Garand. If you have any interest in owning a M1, please invest the time and money to purchase and review this book. The book has 3 large chapters and 13 Appendixs with addtional information. The book has plenty of pictures, drawings, charts and diagraphs to explain all the different makers of the rifle. You can look up the serial number to determine what year a certain rifle was produced. I would not consider purchasing a M1 Garand until I reviewed the wisdom and knowledge in this book.

A perfect compliment to increase your appreciation and knowledge of this excellent rifle. Every part is examined and detailed, down to the various styles of bolts used. if you own a M1 or are thinking about getting one, then having this book at your side as a reference is essential.

I also have the fourth edition. No corrections were made to the drawing of the rear sight windage knobs, which are incorrectly labeled. The section on the buttplates was helpful, easier to look at. The description of differences in the patterns I still find confusing. Discussion of the follower arm differences with drawings still unclear, a picture of them would have been better. I bought the updated edition hoping for some corrections or clarification of various parts time frames, overlaps, and parkerizing colors, bluing differences of parts, but did not see a lot of difference in the two editions in these areas.

A cheap but extremely complete book with all variants, details and data. Very useful for collectors and shooters of M1 Garand rifles. Very satisfied! :-)

This is now my go to book for parts ID. Not as complete as Canfield, but a lot easier to handle because of the size. I recommend this highly as a reference.

This book is very interesting and tells you all you need to know about the famous M1 Garand rifle. I am very impressed with all of the details included by the author and the writing keeps you interested! Exactly what I was looking for!

If you have a Garand and wonder about the myriad of parts, or you are a beginning collector this is the book for you. I can only wonder about the number of hours that went into the research of this book. I restore, buy and sell complete Garands and parts. This book helps me immensely about what I'm buying and how rare, or not, it might be.
