I was surprised how large the hedgehogs were and the nice containers that came with the set. All 4 animals grew crystals! I was excited because I’ve tried some before and they didn’t turn out. This set came with a lot of crystal material in the packets.

Bought this for my 11 year old son for Christmas. He read the directions and was able to do this project on his own. The crystals started pretty quickly and are still forming a week later. Apparently the bowl of dye with the porcupine is going to be our dinning room centerpiece for a while, but hey it's better than in the living room, I can only imagine the damage that dye would do. As long as you have a child that will not carry a bowl of dye around I would recommend, it's a fun project all in all.

I followed the instructions and it works okay. I stirred until dissolved but still some crystals formed on the bottom of the container making it hard to remove the thing without break it. We did let it sit the extra day as recommended.

My son and I bought this because it sounded like a fun little project. We followed all the instructions (which are pretty lackluster), they don’t tell you how to drop the porcupine into boiling hot water. We waited 24 hours before removing them as the instructions said, then let it dry for 24 hours.This is the end result in the picture. Pretty disappointing. Especially since the product picture is pretty cool but very much like wax food photos of the perfect hamburger.

This was a fun science experiment to do with my son.You do have to boil water, and you have to stir for about 5 minutes for each hedgehog. My son said he thought his arm was going to fall off from all of the stirring. I assured him his arm would not fall off.The instructions implied the hedgehog would be fully grown after a two days, but I left ours in for a couple additional days. The green hedgehog grew faster than the blue hedgehog. So I left the blue hedgehog in an additional day longer than the green one. I probably could have left them in the fluid even longer, but we were too excited and wanted to see what they look like after 4 days.The crystals are fragile, The hedgehogs can't really be handled because when you touch the crystals they do break off.You will need gloves to take the hedgehogs out of the fluid, the fluid will stain your hands. Gloves are not included.Overall were very pleased with this experiment!

This is a cute little project for kids. The crystals do grow but were a little underwhelming. The crystals become dull and start to crumble after a while too.

Got this on a flash deal, but a good deal at regular price tooKit works great- gives more than adequate crystal substrate, unlike some, and the seed so you don’t have to do it yourself.Lots of crystals both on the very very cute hedgehogs, and on the bottom of the container when you’re done for extra fun.The Tupperware to grow it in is reusable, too, so you get a science lesson, adorable hedgehog crystal toys and some small storage containers.Highly recommend.

Kids enjoyed them. Pretty easy for them to do.

Fun project... great results

Worked out in the end - had to reheat it again though. I followed the directions (I thought) which are contradictory. Step 3 says boil water - stir to dissolve - put in hedgehog. These are the directions to follow for the most part. Step 3 through 6 say let solution cool down to room temperature then put in hedgehog. Don’t follow those instructions as it won’t work. Ours didn’t work at first, as I followed all the instructions. A few days later I took the hedgehog out - reheated the liquid and redissolved the crystals and put hedgehog back in with it still quite hot. Not boiling as I reheated in the microwave, but not room temperature. This time it worked. So with step 4 - let it cool down some would be ok I think as the temperatures there list (104-140 F) but the written part that says “let cool down to normal room temperature” do not do. This may be issue some of the other reviews that say it did not work may have had.

Don’t waste your money. This does work and it was a birthday gift for my daughter. Very disappointing!
