Product description CD-EAN 827969489123 .co.uk Here's the problem that faced Jack Black and Kyle Gass when it came to making The Pick Of Destiny: how do you top your last effort, 2001's self-titled debut, when it contained the tale of how you wrote (and then forgot) "the best song in the world" ("Tribute")? A toughie, but if you're megalomaniacal comedy-rock duo Tenacious D, anything is possible - even if it contravenes plain logic and several laws of physics. A pumped-up hard rock opera that sees Black and Gass hunting for the eponymous guitar-plucker, the possession of which confers superhuman rocking abilities on its owner, The Pick Of Destiny both rocks hard how could it not, with Dave Grohl behind the drumkit? and rocks funny. The opening "Kickapoo" is an operatic scene-setter that features guest spots from both Meat Loaf (whose vocals, curiously, sound restrained next to Black's goofy rock howl) and ex-Sabbath man Ronnie James Dio, who imparts some secret wisdom in the arts of rocking. Other highlights come with "Classico", which recreates Mozart and Bach with added swear words, and "The Government Totally Sucks", which (as you might expect) makes up in passion what it lacks in insight. A comedy record, in other words, you'll actually want to listen to.--Louis Pattison

Silly choices for the clean words, but needed for those with kids.
This review is for the clean version. Perfect for playing these iconic songs in the car with little ones around. But you get the impression they did not want to do this, as the choice of replacement phrases for the bad words are very silly, with any innuendo such as "take it up brown town" and "You're gonna gargle mayonnaise" are left intact, which to me suggests that the censor either does not understand English or it was a computer. Anyway, they could have made it better by replacing Dave Grohls infamous "F..... F...... FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU........" line with "Damn.....DAMN!......Damnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn" instead of the bizzare and ridiculous "Damn. DRAT!..... version"Tenacious D - there is a market for clean versions of your records that CLEVERLY replace the bad words rather than silly words. Luckily, the clean version of Rize of the Fenix is much better in terms of the replaced lyrics.

Long live the D
If you have never heard Tenacious D before. I'd Recommend the last album before you get this if possible. It's like an Epic journey through the kingdom of rock that should be taken in stages. Step one: Go get the first album. Have your freckin socks rocked off. Step 2: Go get this album! Then have your freakin socks rocked off all over again! In all honestly this album is not quite as good as their last Album. But that was never going to happen. Perfection cannot be beaten. This is a soundtrack though and is not going to be the same as the last album. The album is short but not where you feel hard done by. And it does not have JB and KG joking about and eating each other's schnitzels or no visits to the drive through Etc. I think it's a shame. How ever many years later I still laugh out loud when I here the sketches. In a way it loses a bit of intimacy with the band from the first album, because you're not feeling as if you've got front row seats to them joking about together. This album is full of laughs still however. Maybe the funniest song of all time, Track 11, "Beelzeboss" is a must listen. Where Dave Ghrol (Satan) and Tenacious D have a rock-off to decide if Kyle is to become Satan's sex slave or if Satan must return to hell. Pure genius! Those who do not know Tenacious D and are offended by swearing. Do not listen to this album. I think most people will get the humour though and not be offended at all. It's rock and roll though. It's designed to be offensive :-D All you need to know is. It's an amazing album. The only fault is its length. However you get enough rock and laughs to keep you more than happy. You will listen to it over and over and like the last album you will pick up new things with every listen.5/5 Pure class!!!

The Greatest Album In The World?
I really enjoyed the first album by tenacious D, it is a very unique album, full of rock, swearing and comedy. What more do we need you ask.... Well, this is it! It gives us The Greatest Song In The World!! Now we can fully understand Tribute!!! I searched for this album in all my local shops with no success, I look on amazon and behold....it is here and at a very cheap price. My day was made, I ordered it right away and waited for it to come. It arrived four days later, the case was slightly cracked but this is sometimes going to happen with postal goods, I would buy from this supplier again. Very good value and not too long to wait for delivery. If you enjoyed the POD film, you must get this album.

Amazing album, The D are still alive!
First of all I'd like to say that this is a great album, its definatley worth buying if you enjoyed their first album.I was impressed by this album, better than I expected it to be, obviously it would be almost impossible to come up with something as good as their first album, but this comes close. One of my favourite songs was Beezleboss, this is when they have a rock off with the devil, its really good stuff and funny! Theres lots of varied music in here for everyone. This album however is a bit heavier and uses more electronic instruments and drums than the first album, which is a shame really - I like their live acoustic type of music, which sounds a bit more spontaneous.Where the first album went with the TV series they created which had a loose story to it, this album was released to go with their film. This new album doesent contain as many songs that I'll enjoy singing along to as the first album I don't think. If you are a true D fan then you'll buy this! If you aren't sure, then possibly give it a go or I would suggest you try their original album first if you don't already own it.(Additional information: The Deluxe edition contains a 3D cover, a plastic "pick of destiny", 8 tarrot cards and it comes it a small case in the shape of a book.)

Nowhere near as good as their debut
Without watching the movie you will not understand! It's a mixed bag of unfunny tunes which sound forced and unnatural and far too much unnecessary swearing! Unlike their first album which is IMHO absolutely fantastic and full of sharp wit and JB humour.
