Digitally re-mastered collection of tracks taken from the legendary Westerns starring John Wayne and directed by John Ford. Wayne and Ford - a friendship and professional collaboration that spanned five decades which changed each others' lives, changed the movies, and in the process, changed the way America saw itself. Music from the Westerns of John Wayne And John Ford comprises original music themes and popular songs from seven classic Westerns that these giants of cinema made together. The historical significance of this edition should be noted; these are the original recordings, not modern re-recordings. All of the emphasis is on authenticity and on establishing the extraordinary atmosphere of the Old West that Wayne and Ford so intelligently, so thrillingly put up on the screen.

HEART POUNDING MUSIC
36 tracks on this CD (35 are superb) based on the music from 6 John Wayne/John Ford westerns. The orchestral tracks are certainly packed with emotion stirring content, from the wide open spaces to the bold battle sequences and on to the softer more gentle romantic sounds. All of which I find totally uplifting. The vocal tracks, particularly those by the `Sons Of The Pioneers` and `Ken Curtis` are worth the price of this CD on their own. I particularly love the versions of `I`ll Take You Home Again Kathleen` and `Down By The Glenside`. Yes a CD to treasure ......except for 1 positively awful track, Number 23 (in case you are interested). It is from `The Searchers` and is entitled `Ride Away`. In the film this is sung beautifully by `The Sons Of The Pioneers` over the credits, with John Wayne framed in the doorway, back to the camera and the right hand resting on the left arm (this was an off the cuff tribute to his friend Harry Carey, who had died shortly before). However, here we have a version by Danny Knight (who?), and he manages to turn this emotion packed ballad into a crooning pop song, with no feeling whatsoever. Such a shame. In spite of this I gave five stars because of the rest of this otherwise splendid collection.

What can I say about this brillant cd. I have been waiting for this since I seen DVDs of John Wayne and how I wish I could have the music and songs from it. Now I got it. Well done Amazon. It is the best music and songs, my favourite is My Gal is Purple and She wears a Yellow Ribbon. I could not stop playing it. All the music from John Ford's film which John Wayne appears like The Searchers, Rio Grande etc. The best and wonderfully set. A Happy Customer.

Avid Western fan
I am an avid western fan now in my 60s and having been brought up (my Dad was also !!) on the westens of the 50s, 60s and 70s, both music and themes, I have most (over 130+) of John Wayne movies, and never tire of listening to the themes .... they give me a boost when I have to do mundane things like painting and wallpapering !!

Lang,lang gesucht.....
......endlich gefunden.

Music from the Westerns of John Wayne and John Ford

This has most of the original tracks from 5 movies, including the cowboy songs from campfire scenes.
This has most of the original tracks from 5 movies, including the cowboy songs from campfire scenes. However, it doesn't have the original theme song sound track "The Ride Away" from *The Searchers*, sung by Sons of the Pioneers, with lead singer Ken Curtis, who played Charlie Mc, a.k.a. Festus in Gunsmoke. Unfortunately, this version is performed by an unknown singer; but to it's credit, it is the only version alive that has all the verses! If you are still looking for another CD with "Ride Away", there are none besides the CD named below. The movie version belonged to the studio and it was never released for publication, nor was it ever recorded and sold by Sons P records or recordings. You can only find the genuine The Searchers theme song "Ride Away", and complete movie track, incl. wedding square dance, meeting Scar in the tipi, etc., on the CD *The Westerns - Music And Songs From Classic Westerns [ORIGINAL RECORDINGS REMASTERED] 2CD SET* with 62 songs, tracks, performers from 23 movies!

Evoking the Great American Southwest
Loved it...brought back the fun of watching the John Ford/John Wayne stock acting company----including Ward Bond, Ben Johnson, Ken Curtis, Hank Worden, Patrick Wayne and the incomparable Maureen O'Hara. See the beautiful American Southwest as you listen to this. Better yet, insert the disc and take a long drive into the Great Southwest.

Tiomkin enhances the work of Wayne and Ford
The collaboration of John Ford and John Wayne creates for us the drama of "the Western", as we think of them. Equally it is the breadth of the music of Dimitri Tiomkin that gave added power to those movies. This album still brings to mind our enjoyment of this era.

Music from the Westerns of John Wayne & John Ford
This is 3/4 of a truly great album. It contains original soundtrack music from "Stagecoach", "Fort Apache". "Three Godfathers", "She Wore A Yellow Ribbon", "Rio Grande" and "The Horse Soldiers". All those cuts are excellent, and authentic. "Three Godfathers" had never been available on LP or CD previously, as far as I know. The remaining cut is not a soundtrack excerpt, and is very mediocre. "Ride Away", the Stan Jones ballad which was featured as the main theme for "The Searchers" is delivered by an unknown male singer in a semi-soulful rendition. Why didn't they get a recording of the original score from any of the Milan, Silva or Varese releases which are currently available? The recording by the City of Prague Philharmonic would have fit nicely and would have made a "Good" disc into a "Great" disc. If there were legal complications preventing the use of that recording, surely it would have been possible to use the Sons of the Pioneers version of "Ride Away" from the original soundtrack, or even the Tex Ritter recording which is often found on compilations of Western Movie Themes.I'm happy to own this disc and play it frequently. I would love it even more if I could eliminate one cut and add one of my choosing, as detailed above. Gene Howard
