The GXL Horseshoe is our third entry level model. Like Bandit and Cobra, it is designed to help players learn to perfect either the turn or flip pitch, but it is specifically designed for children, as it weighs well under the standard weight of 2-1/2 pounds. GXL weighs 1 lb. 14 oz., that's 10 ounces less than the standard weight... more than half a pound! Obviously, GXL's llighter weight is a key feature that helps beginning players quickly master the art of the "soft toss technique" eventually leading to precision control of the shoe. The lack of weight on its tips is intentional, as it forces the player to over-exaggerate flip or turn techniques during the learning process, helping to engrain those motions faster. For flip pitchers, the rear thumb cleat is nearly flat, allowing for perfection of the cleats down technique. But for those who like to throw using the thumb cleat, it still has a centering thumb depression. There are also finger notches on the inside center edge that help the flip player to learn proper finger placement and spacing. For the turn player, GXL features long straight blades, giving the player ample room to adjust grips up and down the blade. The rounded back end gives the player additional position to hold for the turn and allows the player to try off-center flipping from the corner/shoulder gripping point, also a nice spot to hold for the 3/4 flop technique. All things considered, GXL is an extremely versatile shoe, giving the beginning player even more options than our basic trainers, especially with children due to the extreme light weight design.. All edges are smooth and rounded for easy release for either turn or flip techniques. Not only is GXL a great training shoe, it's also a great competition shoe for kids and is quite popular in the Cadet Division of NHPA play. GXL is designed to take a beating... daily use is expected! But if used only occasionally, a set of GXL's can last a very long time!
