Outstanding EDC Knife – Smooth, Solid, and Stylish
I've been a fan of the original QSP Penguin for a while, and this button lock version takes it to the next level. Out of the box, the knife was razor sharp and well-centered. The button lock mechanism is snappy, smooth, and has zero blade play—something you don’t always find at this price point. The sheepsfoot blade shape is perfect for everyday carry tasks like opening boxes, slicing food, or general utility work. I got the model with the micarta handle, and it feels great in hand—grippy without being too rough. The ergonomics are spot-on for my medium-sized hands. One of the best things about this knife is how fun it is to fidget with. The button lock makes one-handed open/close effortless, and the detent is tuned just right for flipping or thumb-studding.Pros:Smooth, secure button lockExcellent build quality and blade finishGreat action and fidget factorPremium feel without a premium priceCons:Pocket clip is a bit tight out of the boxMight be large for those who prefer smaller EDC knivesIf you're looking for a reliable, stylish, and fun-to-use everyday carry knife, the QSP Penguin Button Lock is hard to beat. It punches way above its weight.

QSP has knocked it out of the park with this one.
MY FAVORITE KNIFE!!!Let me tell you this is my EDC knife. It is never out of my reach & razor sharp. Bar none, as a avid knife collector of 500+ I do not leave it at home. This batch of C1428N will hold an edge for months with a Rockwell hardness of 59-61. I use mine in a warehouse environment daily. it also is flipped open several hundred times because it is very fidget friendly. For this price point I am going to order at least a dozen more, for backups for backups.

Impressive, especially for the price
This is my first purchase of a QSP knife. I'm impressed with the build quality and finish, especially for the price. The unique blade shape is great for opening boxes. Feels good in the hand. I've sharpened it to a razor edge. I look forward to seeing how it holds its edge.

Great knife for the price.
The media could not be loaded. The button lock action is a little sluggish out of the box. This is due to the spring QSP is using for the button lock mechanism. It is strong! It does start to break in after a day or two, and the action gets much better. The blade is riding on nylon caged multi row ceramic bearings, which you don’t really see on knives at this price. The blade is very sharp out of the box, with a very decent edge. Fit and finish is excellent, as well as build quality. You do have to apply a bit of force to the flipper to overcome that during spring, but nothing crazy. The thumb studs work perfectly, though. Overall, this is a great value for a quality pocket knife. If you like the Penguin, you’re probably going to love this one.

Disappointing compared to other Penguins
Really expected to like this, given that it had all the improvements I wanted in the standard QSP Penguin: flipper, button lock, ball-bearing pivot, G10 instead of micarta scales, 14C28N instead of D2.But the execution is lacking. First, the scales are fatter than the standard version (compare with my copper Penguin in the pics), so it feels chunky in your pocket. I could live with that, but the action (at least on my sample) was atrocious out of the box. Using the flipper, there was enough resistance in the pivot that about 30% of the time the knife didn't fully open and lock up. That's a major no-no. Likewise, the blade wouldn't drop shut when unlocked, even with the pivot so loose that there was blade play in the locked-up position. Disassembling, it appears the machining for the button lock mechanism and detent are just rough. No amount of lube or adjustment is going to fix the action here. Not at all what I expect from QSP, who generally punch way above their weight. By comparison, my regular Penguin with copper washer pivot is exponentially smoother.Stick with the regular Penguin. It's cheaper and still better.
