Great DIY Adjustable Design and Easy to Do!
This is a great DIY design. I found it easy to adjust the width of the rods to fit in the window in our existing brackets. (This shade was replacing a very old existing one that wore out.) The roller tube was a few inches too long, so I pushed the slightly smaller section of the tube into the larger one until it fit perfectly in the brackets. (Be sure to purchase the brackets if you don't already have them. They are right below this item's page in the "Frequently Bought Together" section.)The design of the last few inches of the shade - where it does not attach to the roller tube - is very clever. There are tear sections on that part of the shade about a half an inch deep and a quarter of an inch apart. Once I had the adjusted tube in the window and fitting perfectly (and awkwardly holding the shade since it was several inches too wide, but it was doable), I could easily tell how wide the shade needed to be and at what place I need to start "tearing" the excess shade off. I did this with the shade laid out on the floor of course, and to my amazement I did not need to measure, draw a line or use scissors! I simply starting stripping off the excess width at the tiny tear strip at the top of the shade. I worked slowly, using the already "torn" part of the shade as a measure to make sure it was tearing off the exact same amount all the way down. It was very easy and the excess came off in a perfect section all the way down - just as if there had been a tear strip. But it didn't look torn or have a ragged edge. It looked perfect. I was so impressed.Of course the plastic piece that slides into the small "hem" on the bottom was too wide, but it comes with perforated segments so you can just snap off the right amount of excess. If the metal tube(s) had not arrived dented slightly in two places I would have given this five stars. I think it needs better packaging. But it turned out that the dents were deep enough and/or located in the just the right place to damage the spring mechanism. Only when I had the shade width adjusted and up in the window did I discover the problem, though I should have suspected it when I first saw the dents in the metal tube(s). It takes a LOT of pressure to get the shade to come down at all, and it's very jerky. It's also very hard to get it to retract; half the time the force at which it does so makes the shade jump out of the brackets and fall on the floor. My 85-year-old mother who uses this shade would never be able bring it down or get it up, and I do NOT want it falling on her.So I'll return it. But great design, very easy to adjust the width of both metal tube and shade, and I would have been thrilled with it had it not arrived dented.UPDATE: The company said I did not have to return the damaged shade and shipped a new one out ASAP. It arrived in great condition. Got the new one up very quickly. Looks great and works perfectly.

Works fairly well if installed exactly. Read the reviews for great user advice!
First of all, thank you to the other reviewers who left such thorough and descriptive instructions for installing these shades. I have to admit I was having trouble wrapping my head around how to make this fit to my window. the pictorial sheet that I almost ripped in half wasn't exactly intuitive.having said that, I started off doing everything correctly but one blatant error I made was not having the rod measured correctly before pulling down the excess vinyl....I have really tall windows and don't have ready access to a ladder ( i used my foot stool) so I blame this on not getting a really accurate measure of the rod to begin with. I had to gently tear away the shade vinyl from the sticky tape on the rod about 3 times before I was finally able to get the rod to fit my existing hardware. After all that, the shade came all the way down but I was not able to get it to retract. Since I only open the shade about 1/4 of the way anyway I decided the work around would be to fold it up to where I want and use a blinder clip to hold it inplace.I also noticed that the thickness of the vinyl is far less than the other two shades I currently have, so will consider buying another shade at some point that is much heavier quality. I'm attaching photos to show the difference. this shade blocks out a decent amount of light but my windows face a really bright, blinding roof so the darker the better.

The quality of the shade was as stated, but ...
The quality of the shade was as stated, but the directions were almost nonexistent. It is cleverly designed for sizing to your own custom width, but if it hadn't been for a reviewer, you wouldn't know to totally unwind the shade, collapse the rod to the desired length, then look for the perforations (so small you can't really see them) and make the tear down the unwound shade to resize the shade. Plus, the wrapping for shipping was so tight with bubble wrap and clear tape, you literally couldn't get to the product without inadvertently damaging the edge of the shade.

I did an OK job - but the tear to width section is much easier to use (and much straighter) You just slide the metal tube in to
No hardware comes with this blind - says "Hardware not Included" right on the label. If you are shorter than the "tear to width" width (smaller blind) you have to cut the blind yourself.I did an OK job - but the tear to width section is much easier to use (and much straighter)You just slide the metal tube in to make the main rod shorter - very easy.In all a good looking blind that with a few fixes could be perfect.Definitely worth the money - don' count on it having hardware.

adjustable shade is fantastic!
This shade is fantastic...the rod is adjustable so it is just like a custom shade..there are pre-perfed strips on one side of the shade that allows you to easily tear away the shade material so easily...it tore off beautifully...it originaly was 1" too wide, but were able to shorten the rod width by using the adjustable rod & then tearing the shade fabric along the perfed edge....perfect fit!

Wonderful product!
I love these shades. They are so easy to fit to your window. I was worried about measuring and cutting but it really is simple. I installed them on all my windows by myself and I'm 8 months pregnant! I love how all the windows look the same from the outside now, regardless of what curtains are hanging in the rooms. I like that uniform look. I got this one that filters the sunlight for my kitchen and I got room darkening ones for the bedrooms. The best part is how inexpensive they are.

very yellow
They ended up about half an inch short on my window of the 'same' size. Make sure you buy slightly protruding holders if you think your window might be too wide for it. I use them in combination with regular blinds to avoid summer evening heat from sunlight. The other problem about these is are VERY yellow. It appears white, but when any light gets through, the whole thing is clearly yellow. It also smelled bad for about 3 days. If I forget to open them before going to sleep, it's pretty dark and makes it look cloudy outside.
