My children love its simple story-telling
I really don't understand why - if not for the basic psychological elements contained in this traditional Slavic fairytale, to which children are natural responsive (grow up, act responsibly, care for the weaker creatures/brothers, believe in yourself and you'll outwit the witch...) - but my kids love this simple book.Very essential illustrations, very essential story... guess what, that might be the reason. Straight to the heart.Good for sleepy time rituals too.

Great version of a classic story.
Fantastic story. Simple version with some great repetition. My class aged 3 and 4 loved the witch who eats children!

A Good Story With an Eastern European Flavour
My four year old loves this story. It has just the right amount of scariness to fascinate but not enough to frighten. The story is simply but well told and the illustrations are unusual and eye catching.

A Great Book
A must for any primary school teacher. It can be used in any year group for literacy work or a story at the end of the day.
