The Real John Barry

Most of these 3 discs come from the spy movies Barry did in the 60's, and some after...No Nancy Sinatra, Madonna, or Louie Armstrong vocals thank goodness. Yes, some tracks are updated from their primitive 60's audio capability, but recorded by top of the line orchestras. such as the London Symphony...no mediocre Prague Philharmonic nonsense here, and many are conducted by Mr. Barry himself. These 3 discs complement the genre nicely and match the mood throughout with very few "what's that crap doing in here?" stuff. All tracks are instrumental. No vocals! The best Barry compilation to date. Released in 2016. Highly recommended and true to the Barry spirit of spies, secret agents, and wolves...

Don't believe the other reviewers. I did and it was a TERRIBLE mistake to do so. These are NOT the originals you remember. They're studio REMAKES. It's the typical musician's syndrome of trying to transform something that's already perfect, into something even better.I suppose if you're tone deaf, you won't notice the difference. But for anyone who's familiar with the original versions of these tunes, this collection will be a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. If you rip the CD to your hard drive using Windows Media Player, you'll notice that almost all of the songs are labeled "Studio Version" which is short for "NOT THE ORIGINAL VERSION YOU KNOW AND LOVE".I just hate it when musicians behave like this, remixing the hits to produce their own pet version. I love John Barry. I HATE this album.Other than the front photograph (which is probably staged), there's nothing "Real" in the album. Save your money and buy his movie soundtrack albums.UPDATE:I just took my own advice and purchased the ORIGINAL soundtrack to Body Heat. TIP 1: You must search for the words "original soundtrack", otherwise you're buying a phony version. TIP 2: There is an original Body Heat soundtrack here on Amazon but it's WAY overpriced. TIP 3: If you do a little digging on the net, you will eventually find a website that specializes in original soundtracks. The seller on Amazon wants $112.  Body Heat (OST) (2CD) . I bought the same CD elsewhere for less than half of that, including shipping. FINAL TIP: Read carefully and you will discover that every other version of the Body Heat soundtrack offered on Amazon is FAKE except for the ones which have the same picture shown on the link I just gave you.There seems to be a large market on Amazon for offerings of rehashed John Barry covers done by everyone, from himself to the Jazz at the Movies Band to the London Symphony Orchestra. Haven't these people learned? Ain't nothin' like the real thing !

All recordings are "original" and no mention is ever made that these are SOUNDTRACK recordings, so I guess I should have not made that assumption. I love John Barry and have a dozen of the original soundtracks so I know these are not the same. It doesn't even say WHO is conducting the unknown orchestra. If you are looking for a better performed and more complete recording, go for the City of Prague set - it includes a LOT more material (119 tracks versus 54), and I think it is better performed. The performers on"The Real John Barry" are fine - the two stars are for leading you to think these are actual Soundtrack songs.
