Excellent Pattern Resource
I took a sashiko class & the teacher recommended this book as a resource for sashiko patterns and some projects. This is not a book to start from the beginning and work your way through. Look for the patterns described as easy, and start there.Diagrams show how to build the patterns and pictures show the final result. There is a chapter with pictures of completed projects, as well as projects scattered throughout, and an extensive bibliography for those who want to delve deeper. All the patterns list the Japanese name and English translation. They also include historical or cultural notes.

Is this the Best Embroidery Book Ever?
Although I've been doing embroidery for over forty years, I somehow had never come across Sashiko. Curious, I ordered the book, and this might be my best embroidery purchase ever.It clearly explains the origins of Sashiko, with many scene-setting photos. The directions are easily understood and complete. The many, many patterns are clear, along with ideas for use. There is literally nothing left to do but try it.If you want all the information you need about Sashiko in just one book, this book has it all. No one could be disappointed.

What a wonderful source book for the history and techniques used for Shasiko Embroidery. Bold pictures to illustrate stitching and projects I could make.

The Ultimate Sashiko Sourcebook
The author covers every aspect of Sashiko embroidery and quilting. The history of the art chapter is excellent, the illustrations are quite helpful and the instructions are clear and complete. In the past my search for learning about this art has resulted in the unfortunate purchase of several books dedicated to machine sashiko. My interest lies in the traditional art and this book treats every area of that ancient craft. I recommend this book to those seeking to learn and discover the exquisite art of Sashiko embroidery.

Beautiful book!
What a lovely book! Well-written, lots of information and projects. I love the way the author uses different colors in the instructions for different stitches, so you can see exactly where the lines go. By the way, the print version is SO much nicer than the kindle version. You really want to hold this beautiful book in your hands, so you can see the photos full-size.
