Fit for purpose - not a pro tool and not priced like one
I've repaired two sets of threads in car suspension components with this kit (great designs, BMW) and the tool has done the job and done it well. If I were a pro and planned on using this over and over, I'd probably buy the name-brand tool. But for a tool that I'll use twice and will probably gather dust and never be used again, it did the job. Plus the cost of this is less than either buying a name brand tool or paying someone to do it for you.A few notes:-This is not a particularly sharp drill bit, nor is it made of high quality steel. Go slow, oil it, keep it cool. You can't drill metal like you drill wood. I can see how it's one-and-done if you overheat it.-In fact, that's probably good advice for all the components of this kit. Go slow.-You need a 1/2" drill. This is an oversized 12mm bit, you wouldn't expect it to come in a 3/8" size.Overall, expect adequate performance for occasional use at a reasonable price point. Which is it exactly its intended use.

Easy fix to stripped threads
So I stupidly ignored the torque specs on my motorcycle drain plug the last time I changed the oil. Warning: don't do that. When I pulled the drain plug to change it again, the threads came out with the plug. After my outburst of swearing subsided, I bought this little kit to retap the drain plug hole. It works exactly as advertised. You will need to buy cutting oil and a tap handle, as neither are included. But once you have them, the drill and tap process works just as it should and the repair coil threads in perfectly. The kit includes a punch to snap out the center tab in the repair coil, and comes with several (I think maybe six?) repair coils of the advertised size. The kit is well made and easy to use.

Great value for the cost
My fist mistake was not know how brittle aluminium threads are. I stripped the block threads for an engine mount. I used a torque wrench and set to the spects but still. Mistke #2, no giving enought time to instal the helicoil and forced the bolt and now I needed a new bolt. After, finding a new bolt and with lessons learned from my two mistakes. I was able to insert two helicoils for the engine mounts. First, the drill bit provided worked. Make the space is clear of debries. Second, do multiple passes with the thread tap. Third, use lubricant to insert the helicoil. Do no push, just turn and guide it in. Otherwise, you will skip a thread and gamw over. Star all over again. Visually inspect that no threads have skipped and try insert the bolt. If it goes in with no problem. You are set. I used a pick/hook to align the bottom and top wire.Last but not final. I used 8 out of the 10 helocoils privided to complete two installs. First one 5 helicoils, second one just two tries.

Worked Great!
Fixed the oil drain plug on my son’s quad which was stripped. Worked well. Easy to use. We only have a few hours on it so time will tell how durable it is.

Works Great!
Totally did the job for my 2007 BMW X3 3.0Si.Was oil changing my x3 the other month. And after I replaced the drain plug and tried to tighten it, it kept spinning and spinning and I thought to myself. My gosh, I don’t want to spend money on an oil pan especially for the x3 being more complicated to replace.Upon researching, I found this product and was good for the money. Arrived promptly. But I needed one more piece of tool which harbor freight had for $19 which was a tap wrench. Used the bit, and it drilled properly into the aluminum pan, the. Used the tap, and it went properly and tapped smoothly. Then I applied red loctite onto the coil and used the tool to spin it inside. Waited 10 mins and I popped the end of the cool and spun my new drain plug in. Then I torqued it in 40lb and fit snug. Put my new oil. Watched any drips and viola. It worked!Drove it for 4 hours while running errands and just went home, and parked it and waited 30 mins and I looked at the bottom and no more oil spills!Awesome product!

Drill bit fragile
Worked for me but the drill bit broke in half on first use. I used the broken half bit in my drill gently and it still worked. The coil insert tool is high quality. Way better than the plastic ones at Napa for double price.

Everything you need
If I would have used a torque wrench to tighten my oil drain plug then I would have never needed this kit. There are many different ways to fix stripped threads, however these Helicoils remain my favorite because they end up lining your drain hole with a durable solution, I.e. steel threads for a steel plug, this is how it should have been from the beginning. Plus you still have a full size drain hole for future oil changes.I only needed to fix one hole and here is to hoping I will never have to use the kit again. This is no reflection on the kit however, the drill bit made quick work of cleaning the hole, then chase the threads with the tap, clean out the hole, place the helicoil on insert tool and apply a dab of hydraulic loctite. Screw it in far enough so the beginning of the thread sits lower that the sealing surface and then use the punch tool to knock of the piece at the end.You now have clean and durable threads, now go check your manual for that torque spec.

Saved my new engine build
Fully built my engine and went to install plugs only to find one had been previously helicoiled and the coil must’ve come out with old plug and I didn’t notice. Easy fix. Fast shipping. So far has held up.
